If there is one thing that I can say I’ve learned throughout the last month of being quarantined, it’s that staying dedicated to a few things that bring you joy is so important for mental well-being.
I’ve been going pretty stir crazy with the amount of isolation I am experiencing.
As an extrovert whose love languages are physical touch and quality time, not being able to hug or spend time with my people has been so difficult to deal with.
One thing that has consistently brought me clarity is running. Since starting @fortefitliving’s Shelter In Place Half Marathon training group, I have found that I truly love running.
There is something to be said for pushing yourself to achieve something your body knows it can do, but your mind is telling you no.
Take today for instance. It was a long run day, and my first time ever running 4 miles nonstop. There were a couple of times my mind started to get the better of me, but I had to check myself, knowing that my body could push through and had not reached that point of exhaustion, and I did the damn thing!
The point is, even though we may be entering a time of new normal in terms of social interactions, being able to come back to those things that truly bring you joy and fulfillment will help immensely on those super tough days.
