Freshly carved Everything Cups and a mug, pre-firing.
I'm obsessed with carving right now. It's so therapeutic; it calms the mind, busies the hands, and when you carve the clay at the exact right time in the drying process, the little curls that peel away are the most delightfully satisfying thing you could imagine.
This type of carving is sgrafitto, carving through a colored slip or - in this case - underglaze. The blue will be darker and possibly more teal/muted after firing and glazing. It's a new color for me, so who really knows. The clay will be a nice bright off-white, not the gray it is here. So they will likely have more contrast and zing when fired.
